K by Kate - A Story of Threads
K by Kate aims at collecting and giving a second life to beautiful ethnic fabrics that were found during living time, travels and discoveries of minority groups in China, beautiful kimonos from Japan and more to create unique designs inspired from different cultures with many storytelling backgrounds. Behind K by Kate, Cathleen Gay has been working in Fashion for more then 20 years. She was trained in Haute Couture and began her carrier by entering Dior after her graduation year. She started to work for prestigious Haute Couture Houses, such Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, Louis Féraud, Lorris Azzaro, Koji Tatsuno. After some time working there she decided to explore other sectors of the fashion & apparel industry, including ready-to-wear, mass market for women, kids, young fashion creators... While living in China for ten years where she taught fashion design at universities, she felt in love with the minority groups culture and felt the immediate link with the Haute Couture hand-made work. K by Kate was born... The main idea that grew behind K by Kate was to create something unique with the purpose of reusing those beautiful pieces of hand-made fabrics, giving them a second life, getting inspired from old objects. All our items are designed by K by Kate, sometime we reuse those beautiful treasures to make our collections bags and sometime we find and ask to some hand-craft artisan to realize our design with the respect of their old traditions. Environmental consciousnesses is an important part of K by Kate through the selection of materials and the concept of reusing and upcycling. Strong hand print, less foot print... Creation is placed in the heart of the label with the respect of an inspiration based on the present moment. Thank you to follow K by Kate® - A Story of Threads... |
A Story of Threads PhilosophyK by Kate is not just a brand is a Story of Threads...
Behind each precious piece of fabric that we are collecting, there is a special story, through the weaving, dyeing, print or embroidered processes. Those beautiful piece of fabrics tell us stories of their culture, symbol, ceremony, history, ritual, nature, environment... They are precious elements of our human kind cultural heritage... Wearing them is like carrying treasure from the past with mystic secrets... K by Kate from Threads to Treasures... |
